United Nations, "Institutional Interplay: Biosafety and Trade"
PUBLISHER: United Nations University | ISBN 10: 9280811487 | 2008 | File type: PDF | 224 pages | 1 mb
International institutions and the consequences of their interplay are emerging as a major agenda item for research and policy. As governments enter into an ever-increasing number of international agreements, questions arise about the overlap of issues, jurisdiction and membership. Of particular interest to practitioners and analysts is how this manage of institutions at the international level intersects and interrelates to influence and affect the content, operation, performance and effectiveness of a specific institution, as well as the functioning of the overall global governance context. Biosafety, which is an issue that is relevant to numerous institutions, offers an excellent case study for exploring and applying interplay in practical terms.

The Value Motive: The Only Alternative to the Profit Motive
pages: 288 | 2007 | ISBN: 0470057556 | File type: PDF | 1,9 mb
Our market system has evolved in line with capitalist philosophy, and at its heart is profit. But while profit can be a powerful motive, it is not always used responsibly and, in the worst cases, this can have damaging effects at a wider level. The calls for a corporate conscience grow louder, but no one has yet suggested an alternative to profit that people find as compelling. Profit is here and now.

From Crisis to Growth in Africa
Routledge | October 12, 2001 | ISBN-10: 0415254175 | 304 pages | File type: PDF | 1 mb
This book is concerned with the problem of achieving sustained economic growth in thirteen African countries. These are divided into three groups: the war stricken economics (Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Ethiopia and Eritrea), the reform strugglers (Kenya, Cape Verde, Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique and Zimbabwe) and the growth seekers (Uganda, South Africa and Lesotho). Virtually all of these countries have gone through a structural adjustment program designed to remove imperfections that make it difficult for the market system to work in an optimal fashion. This title reviews these experiences.

Strategic and Organizational Change
Routledge | January 13, 2006 | ISBN-10: 0415360501 | 240 pages | File type: PDF | 1 mb
The brewing industry, through its network of public houses, has a profound impact on the lives of much of the population of United Kingdom. Exploring the shaping of this industry in the years from 1950-1990, this book shows how it has moved from being largely concerned with the technical issues of production to being a key part of the retail industries.Drawing from theoretical traditions such as critical realism and new institutionalism, Strategic andOrganizational Change demonstrates the considerable differences between major companies in the industry and the ways in which they have adopted a retailing approach. At the heart of the book is an exploration of the relationship between managerial choice and the structural constraints and opportunities in which that choice was exercised.

Women and the Labour Market in Japan's Industrialising Economy: The Textile Industry before the Pacific War: By free-manual.blogspot.com(Free Books and manual Manual,Free eBooks,BSCS,BCS,Free Downloadable Books)
Janet Hunter, "Women and the Labour Market in Japan's Industrialising Economy: The TextileIndustry before the Pacific War"
Publisher: RoutledgeCurzon | ISBN 10: 0415297311 | 2003 | File type: PDF | 368 pages | 2.3 mb
During the period of industrialisation in Japan from the 1870s to the 1930s, the textile industry was Japan's largest manufacturing industry, and the country's major source of export earnings. It had a predominantly female labour force, drawn mainly from the agricultural population.
This book examines the institutions of the labour market of this critical industry during this important period for Japanese economic development. Based on extensive original research, the book provides a wealth of detail, showing amongst other things the complexity of the labour market, the interdependence of the agricultural and manufacturing sectors, and the importance of gender. It argues that the labour market institutions which developed in this period had a profound effect on the labour market and labour relations in the postwar years.

End the Fed: By free-manual.blogspot.com(Free Books and manual Manual,Free eBooks,BSCS,BCS,Free Downloadable Books)
End the Fed [Audiobook, Unabridged] by Ron Paul Bob Craig (Reader)
Publisher: Hachette Audio; Unabridged edition (September 16, 2009) | ISBN: 1600248667 | Language: English | Audio CD in MP3 / 128Kbps | 350 mb
At first glance, abolishing the Federal Reserve and returning to the gold standard seems a quaintly eccentric idea, but Texas congressman Paul presents a plan to eliminate our country's central bank, and return to a private banking system, that's both serious and plausible. The questionable aspects involve Paul's predicted results: not only will ending the Fed eliminate inflation (the government cannot print more money than it has gold reserves), but also business booms and busts, wars, income inequality, trade imbalances and the growth of government. Further, and perhaps most important, it would "disempower the secretive cartel of powerful money managers who exercise disproportionate influence over the conduct of public policy." Paul tends to gloss over those periods in history, including the Panic of 1907, in which private banking and the gold standard were law: "the bad reputation of nineteenth century American banking is largely the result of propaganda agitating for the creation of the Fed." With respect to "secretive cartels," Paul takes up the interesting question of whether J.P. Morgan is in fact preferable to Ben Bernanke. An engaging response to big-government manual for the financial crisis, this knowledgeable and opinionated look at U.S. economics, from a firebrand public servant, should provoke much thought.
