Vin based key codes only apply to 1999 1/2 and newer volkswagens. How to fix a new beetle door lock. by chris moore . install the new lock cylinder into the door with its key inserted. tighten the setscrew in the door and remove the key from the cylinder. door latch. remove the lock cylinder as described above..
